NERCOMP SIG - Emerging Trends for T&L

I have always been fascinated by the rapidity and creativity demonstrated by advances in social software. I had an opportunity to attend a NERCOMP SIG on Emerging Trends in Teaching and Learning. The opening speaker was Bryan Alexander, Director for Emerging Technologies at the National Institute for Technology and Liberal Education (NITLE).

He opened with a quick discussion of Flock, del.icio.us, Web 2.0, flikr, and alternate reality games. This last one was a wild ride on how people are beginning to tweak the web to fit their personality and cultural styles! Check out the link to the Bad Wolf disclaimer page for Doctor Who. (Hint: highlight the text from the last line to the bottom of the page)

He also noted the growth of user generated content sites such as ourmedia.org.
