How Do You Get Your Message Out?

ARC Campaign

Came across this Wired article today in my feeds entitled Masterpieces of Disaster. The American Red Cross in the San Francisco Bay Area is taking a proactive approach to emergency preparedness with their Prepare Bay Area project. Hiring Publicis & Hal Riney, the Bay Area ARC has developed a diversified high-impact communication portfolio including mobile billboards which are designed to integrate into real settings, water bottles with the message “Try living on this for three days” and fake earthquake early warning simulators (an old-school bell that would ring when the earthquake shook hard enough), among others. You really need to look at the photos accompanying the article for the full impact!

The Red Cross message:

“What do we have to do to get your attention?”

Now this is an in-your-face approach to communication and only time will tell how well it is received but it made me stop and think about how I get my message out to my own intended recipients whether they are faculty, students or the general public.

Wow a very eyecatching means of getting attention! I must say I had to scroll back to the image to look at it again.

I see this types of mobile billboards all the time in LA. they’re effect at catching people’s attention, but i’m guessing the conversion rate is a little difficult to measure.

The picture posted by the author is really awesome. I dont know should I call it mastery of photography or mastery of graphics.

The editing of the picture of the truck is done very finely and I love the work done by the photographer. Best of luck to the author for the future.

Very creative and eye catching ads. Well at least on these pages where they are parked in appropriate backgrounds where they are supposed to blend in. Not sure how effective the above mobile ad would be if it was just rolling down the road without the background to compliment it.
Mobile billboard advertising has its place. If your stuck in traffic and have a need for an advertisement that is displayed, yes you can pick up phone and call them. Most of the time I may not give it a second glance.

Those are great images. Ive noticed billboard advertising more and more in the past two years. Now there are rotating advertisements for each side panel, which is a nice feature for the advertising company as one truck doesnt have to reply soley on one or two advertisers, but can be as many as 3 per panel or up to 9. Pretty cool.

Great advertising concept. Love the truck side advert blending into the backgrounds. Ingenious.

I wonder how effective this would be on boats. Boat owners trying to reach a higher end clientele, like those typically in and out of ports and docks might turn out to be effective.

I am impressed with the imagery you have posted for the truck signs. This theme would work great for us using a custom campaign button and a matching designed t-shirt. Thanks for the inspiration.

Very interesting blog with images to boot. I can appreciate such creative advertising and have noticed more and more local trucks using rolling billboards for their marketing strategy. Its always refreshing to see advertising coming from outside the box and using new creative means.

Well I think this is the way forward, because people do not pay attention to traditional banners or other signs nowadays. And this is very innovative indeed. Its time people are taught about disaster management.
